Joyce and Santa Get Married

We got married in Westbury N.Y. on 12/12/70. We were married in The Church of the Advent Episcopal Church.

I was raised Baptist, but grew to like going to church with Joyce. Joyce was a life-long Episcopalian.  I converted and was confirmed after we got married. We had our wedding reception at the Huntington Townhouse

in Huntington Long Island. We originally had contracted for a small venue room, but the week before our wedding, they contacted us and asked if we would like a larger room at the same price. We said sure.

Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus for the first time.

Jerry and Cheryl (Joyce's brother and sister in law) had their reception in the same room a year earlier, and probably paid twice what we paid. We left the reception for our very brief honeymoon in New York City. Joyce handled the church, and reception, and I was responsible for booking the Honeymoon suite at the hotel.  We drove from Huntington into the city parked in the hotel parking lot,

City Squire Motor Inn

and went to the front desk to check in.

OUR FIRST LIFE LESSON AS MR AND MRS CLAUS.

I made the reservation under my name, Santa Claus, because the credit card I was going to use was in that name. WELLLLLL, the reservation agent thought I was playing a Christmas prank early by reserving the Honeymoon Suite for Santa. So, like Mary and Joseph, there was no suite at the Inn. Someone else booked the Honeymoon Suite after me. I pulled out all my ID and pleaded with them. No luck. They did give us a very nice room (no Honeymoon suite though) and they sent up some champagne as an apology. Joyce and I got to see a couple of Off Broadway shows courtesy of the USO, and we made good use of our nice, not Honeymoon suite, room.

We both had to be back at work quickly, so it was short, but sweet.  We had rented an apartment in Levittown,

so we went home and continued our Honeymoon and both went back to work.
