Playing Santa

After the family moved to Texas, Joyce sewed me a Santa suit from a pajama pattern.  It was pretty simple and did what it was intended for. Over the years, she has sewn a couple of suits for me.

We got asked to play Santa and Mrs Claus for schools and groups.

One group that we remember fondly,  was a local organization that held events for adults with disabilities.  Most of these young adults were mentally challenged. I would say average mental ages were under 10 years old. Joyce and I went to play Santa and Mrs. Claus for this group.  A few of the clients were afraid of me in the red suit, and beard, but most of them were so excited to have Santa at their party and give him their lists. Joyce would give them candy canes as they left.

You would not believe the good feelings we got from being of service to these groups.

I also did Santa for Bella’s school. Bella is Heather’s daughter. For a few years in elementary school, I would do breakfast with Santa.

There was milk and cookies for the kids, and then they would come up to Santa’s throne and give me their lists. There was a photographer taking pictures and the parents could order prints.

When CoVid hit in 2020, that all came to a screeching halt along with all my other Santa appearances.
